#Young Justice Spoilers

absolutely going coo-coo bonkers banana pants thinking about the young justice series.

the first season is ABSOLUTELY perfect, NO NOTES. the team dynamics. the b plot storylines that ended up being SO critical. the betrayals. the cameos from other young superheros. batman!!!!!!!

season two, also pretty good! starts off hot with introductions of new characters, building off of last season's cliff hanger plot lines. gives us that juicy juicy wally-artemis relationship stuff. good leadership and team decision making. but then- like halfway throughout the season, it starts feeling... rushed? like the plot just starts tumbling down a hill. then the season finale is just... sad. its sad and you don't feel like the team saved anything because so much is lost.

season 3 begins and it really doesn't circle back to the loss and the absolute turmoil the ending of season 2 caused. the team makes references to it every now and then, but the actual justice league? not at all.

season 4 just digs up old wounds for no reason. i totally get revisiting old missed plot bits, but when you're not actually filling in those plot holes you're just deepening them.

it really sucks that the pinicle of writing and animation in season one just crashed and burned.

might be where voltron learned that trick.

SPOILER WARNING FOR YOUNG JUSTICE (and oddly enough) ONE PIECE

I sure know how to pick favorite characters that end up dying. I watched a few episodes of Young Justice with one of my best friends last year and after seeing Wally West, went:

“Yep. He’s my favorite.”

To which my friend just kind of nodded her head sadly (she had already watched the show).

After his untimely end which I refuse to believe (look, I like that Artemis has this arc of healing and grieving and I’d hate for Wally to come back and it to either be thrown away or for Wally to not be EXACTLY Wally. But he is my boy and I want him back.) I was like:

“Ah. Dick Grayson is my favorite.”

And then I watched him “die” (and die for real in other movies, comics, etc.)

So skip forward a few months to where I’m watching One Piece. Portgas D. Ace. Fire Fist Ace. HOT DADDY FLAME ACE shoes up on screen and I literally screamed. I fell INSTANTLY. And the same friend who is now my roommate just has this knowing nod AGAIN. And while looking up screenshots for art references to draw him, I found out he dies TOO!

So with Young Justice was canceled... again, (I know, old news) I have to say how bummed I am that they never got around to Raven and Starfire, somehow.

Like, we never saw even a hint of their existence, but before them we got adaptations of so many c and d-listers (Windfall??? Looker???). And it isn't a lack of popularity since just about every other popular teen hero (or traditionally teen hero) that weren't on the starting line up has joined since: the rest of the Bat Family, all the Green Arrow kids, Beast Boy, Cyborg, Terra, Blue Beetle, Static, etc.

And it isn't like we didn't have chances to hint at their existence/introduce them even in a cameo. There was a whole magic arc w/ Zatanna, Raven could've shown up or been discussed a bit there (Probably discussed to keep it less cluttered). And I know a perfect way for Starfire to have first shown up: at the end standing with Supergirl and Mary Marvel as a Fury. Ties into her usual origin of having been captured and being experimented on.

IDK, I just think it's a shame we won't see YJ's take on the characters... for a while, anyway.

Human who has only seen the world as a trans woman: “Getting a lot of trans woman vibes from this alien...”

Read a hot take online saying Young Justice’s Miss Martian was a trans allegory and thought. That must be a reach. Like I see your case, mister clickbait writer, but. The writers must surely have intended Some Other Thing in 2012.

And then years later I watch it to see if they were right and ten episodes in I get Miss Martian shyly asking if she can “pass as an Earth girl” (pictured; she looks human but is green).

Which in context is Just A Joke. The joke being that Miss Martian can very easily pass as an Earth girl by shapeshifting. Phew! Thought we were going to get into some Transgender Themes there.

And then episode 21 is largely about people learning the green girl isn’t her default appearance and wanting to see her True Form (which does not pass as an Earth girl, green or otherwise, which she is very ashamed of).

The climax is a fight with an enemy psychic who acts like he’s just trying to make her face the truth, but is clearly just a sadist who likes hurting young women and sees an easy target (NOT POLITICAL). They have a battle in her mind where she’s still a green girl, which he attributes to self-deception but is to her a show of defiance. (There’s more to this arc in season 1, and it’s very clever, but more evidence would be redundant here)

There’s a lot of other stuff going on with her (some of which isn’t handled as well), and her characterization seems to change depending on who’s writing, but...I feel like at this point the hot take is that she’s not a trans allegory, or at least heavily informed by that. I was surprised to see that for one of the main characters in mainstream youth programming.

Two years, near-about 36 episodes later, an entire season waiting for a smidgen of content, going through the emotional rollercoaster of this whole plotline just to see Icicle Jr’s handsome face for approximately three seconds just to see him attend his frienemy’s wedding, shush a noisy guy complaining about his own lack of awareness, and shed a tear for the happy occasion within the last five minutes of the season finale.

Worth it.

That one actually wasn't a half bad version, to be honest. This may be because my first exposure was from a fanfic that described it from a more introspective point of view, but I can live with that one.

It wasn't expected and had a legitimate reason besides "it should", being the M'gann flipped the frig out and then accidentally started pyschically attacking her teammates like a drowning victim attacks their rescuers.

Since I know psychic damage CAN do that in this universe, (it's been repeatedly shown in other ways in comic books/comic book adaptations that I can accept it) I don't feel the hand of God just "making up" stakes with no justification, so I'm like, huh. M'gann could seriously hurt someone with their psychic abilities because she's stronger than her uncle? That checks out.

“Remember, if you die in the simulation-” “Yeah, yeah, we know, you die in real life.” “What? No! You need to reset the simulation with this terminal! What is WRONG with you humans?!”
